Welcome to the Adirondack Camp Infirmary. Our staff of RNs, LPNs, and health care assistants oversee the health and welfare of all staff and campers 24/7. Each of our nurses (as well as every counselor) is certified in CPR and First Aid and has a wealth of experience working with young people.
Campers go directly to the Infirmary when they first arrive at Camp. Each camper is weighed and has their hair checked for any lice. Medical forms are checked over to make certain that all necessary authorizations, instructions, or medications are noted in order to provide the best care to your child. Any medications – prescription or over-the-counter are also handed in at this time to the health staff and all medications are kept in the Infirmary to be administered by the nurses at the necessary times. Opening “check-in” day can be very busy, but it is also a great time for us to begin to get to know your child.
Safety is our highest priority at Camp and the Infirmary health staff plays a very important role in monitoring it for both campers and staff in the many different areas around Camp. They walk regular rounds of all the different activity areas to make sure campers are hydrated and looking well. First Aid kits are put in all activity areas, every cabin and are maintained and inventoried on a regular basis by the health staff. Emergency equipment includes an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator).
The Infirmary’s regular operating hours are from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM and all other times are covered on an “on-call” basis for emergencies. If your child needs to be seen by a physician, the Camp has standing appointments in town available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Ticonderoga Health Center. Moses-Ludington Hospital is five minutes away from the Health Center. Campers often visit the Infirmary over the course of the day for cuts, bumps, stubbed toes, splinters, headaches and a multitude of other small but bothersome ailments; and we are also there to lend an ear to a child who needs a hug, to talk to someone or who is sad or upset.
We in the Infirmary pride ourselves on maintaining a close and personal relationship with our campers. If children are sick or not feeling well – they will spend the night in the Infirmary and be cared for around-the clock until they are well again. The Infirmary also has extra blankets, sheets, and linens, if needed. It also prepares the medications for all of the wilderness trips that leave Camp on a daily basis. The Infirmary is a very busy place, but not so busy that your children won’t receive specific and loving care when they need it.
