Welcome to the Adirondack Camp Infirmary. Our staff of Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners oversee the health and welfare of all our summer camp staff and campers 24/7. Each of our nurses (as well as every counselor) is certified in CPR and First Aid and has a wealth of experience working with young people.
Campers go directly to the Infirmary when they first arrive at Camp. Each camper is weighed and has their hair checked for lice. Medical forms are checked over to make certain that all necessary authorizations, instructions, or medications are noted in order to provide the best care to your child. Any medications – prescription and over-the-counter are also handed in at this time and all medications are kept in the Infirmary to be administered by the camp nurses at the necessary times. Opening “check-in” day can be very busy, but it is also a great time for us to begin to get to know your child.
Safety is our highest priority at Camp and the Infirmary staff plays a very important role in assuring a safe Camp facility and summer camp experience for all of us. They walk regular rounds of all the different camp activity areas to make sure campers are hydrated and looking well. First Aid kits in all camp activity areas and every cabin are maintained and inventoried on a regular basis by the health staff. Camp safety equipment includes an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). If your child chooses to participate in an off-site wilderness adventure, rest assured that all of our wilderness trip leaders are certified in advanced backcountry medicine.
Campers may visit the Infirmary over the course of the day for scrapes, bumps, stubbed toes, splinters, headaches or a multitude of other small but bothersome ailments; and we are always there to lend an ear to a child who simply needs a hug, to talk to someone or who is sad or upset. The Infirmary can be a very busy place, but not so busy that your children won’t receive specific and loving care when they need it. If your child is too ill to be treated on-site, we will make him or her a doctor's appointment at our local health center in Ticonderoga, NY. If an emergency arises, we are on the 911 system and are only 15 minutes from Moses-Ludington Hospital.
We in the Infirmary pride ourselves on maintaining a close and personal relationship with our campers. If children are sick or not feeling well – they will spend the night in the Infirmary and be cared for around-the clock until they are well again. The Infirmary also has extra blankets, sheets, and linens, if needed. It also prepares the medications for all of the wilderness trips that leave Camp on a daily basis.
