Camp Trumpeter/Bugler

Experienced musician (bugle, trumpet, trombone) needed to keep camp on schedule throughout the day. Position also includes working in a camp activity. See positions in Creative Arts, Land Sports, & Water Sports below. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

Experience playing a bugle, trumpet, or trombone, including reveille, taps, and assorted catchy tunes to signal activity changes throughout the day. Experience in a camp program activity. All staff is encouraged to have current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR.

ADK ARTS

Head of Adirondack Arts

Envision and implement a creative, diverse arts program for campers. Programs include Creative Arts, Culinary Fun, Dance, Electronic Arts, and Performing Arts. The Head of Arts will coordinate the arts staff, and be capable of teaching in several areas on staff days off. Responsibilities include assisting staff in planning engaging lesson plans, ordering supplies, and being responsible for the care and use of arts buildings and equipment. The Head of ADK Arts will coordinate with our Senior Mentor for Guest Artists, and assist as needed with evening activities and weekend events. This is a 10-week live-in position, with housing provided in a shared staff cabin.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the vision, energy, and organizational ability to implement a contemporary, engaging arts program for children ages 7-16. Must be capable of supervising, training and inspiring arts staff. Skill in one or more of our program areas is required; supervisory experience is desirable. All staff is encouraged to have current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR.

Creative Arts

From drawing and painting to funky beaded bracelets, campers love Creative Arts. Plan and implement a variety of engaging projects for every age group utilizing different media. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Culinary Fun

Culinary Fun is one of our most popular activities—campers love to cook! Plan and implement engaging, healthy cooking activities that get campers of all ages involved. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

Dance

Hip-hop, ballroom, swing—you plan the moves that campers will enjoy! Plan and implement engaging dance activities for all ages. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Electronic Arts

Electronic Arts is a small but intense program for campers who want to get behind the lens of a digital or video camera. Plan and implement engaging activities that get campers involved and that may be posted on our website. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Performing Arts

Share your love of the stage and help campers become more adept at performing. Plan and implement theatrical activities that get campers involved. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Archery

Creative staff makes archery fun and challenging for campers. Plan and implement activities that engage both the brand new and the serious archer. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

Knowledge and experience planning and leading archery with children ages 7-16. Archery instructor certification is desirable; however we do offer a certification course to staff. All staff is encouraged to have current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR.

Athletics

Energetic and innovative staff keeps our athletics program fun for new and experienced athletes. Share your skills with campers at the basketball court, sand volleyball court, and large playing field in the center of camp. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Fencing

Creative staff makes fencing fun and challenging for campers. Plan and implement activities that engage both the brand new and the serious fencer. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

The fencing instructor must have the ability to demonstrate correct technique, teach basic tactics, and have the ability to referee beginner foil bouts with a good understanding of right of way. Competitive experience (intercollegiate and/or USFA), FOC referee training, the ability to troubleshoot and maintain electrical fencing equipment, and the ability to teach more than one weapon are big plusses. Above all, the counselor must enjoy working with children and have patience, energy and enthusiasm for sharing the sport with children ages 7-16. All staff is encouraged to have current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR.

Tennis

Develop, coordinate and teach a tennis program consistent with standards of USTA, from basic fundamentals for first time players to competitive singles and doubles tournament play. Ensure that equipment is in good working order; assist with preparing court daily. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

3-5 years experience teaching and coaching all levels of tennis with children. Competitive tournament experience. All staff is encouraged to have current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR.

WATERSPORTS

Waterskiing at Adirondack Camp

Head of Sailing

Experienced sailor needed to lead a first class sailing program on crystal clear, 32-mile long Lake George. Our sailing fleet includes 6 FJs, 6 Optis, a JY 15, a Capri 14, 2 Lasers, and a 420. The Head of Sailing will plan and implement a progressive program that includes basic fundamentals for first time sailors up to competitive racing for advanced sailors. Our sailing program also includes day and overnight trips. The Head of Sailing will supervise 3 sailing staff members. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

3-5 years experience sailing a variety of boats; current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer; experience driving a motorboat. Capable of supervising, training and inspiring sailing staff.

Fishing

Share your love of the sport with beginning and experienced fishermen; must be competent in basic rigging and rod maintenance. If a camper hauls in a keeper, our chef helps prepare it! A highlight every session is “The Search for Herbie”, our before breakfast fishing rodeo. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

Experience teaching fishing to all ages, from beginner to advanced. Current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer are a plus; this course is offered pre-season to staff.

Kayaking

Campers love honing their kayaking skills in crystal clear Lake George. Instructors must be capable of teaching the fundamentals as well as advanced instruction, including high brace, Eskimo roll, capsizing, self-rescue and wet entry, and proper strokes. Our instructors have the opportunity to accompany campers on fully guided whitewater day trips. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

Experience kayaking in both flat and whitewater; teaching experience a plus. Current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer are a plus; this course is offered pre-season to staff.

Sailing

Stand Up Paddleboarding

Beautiful, crystal clear Lake George is perfect for Stand Up Paddleboarding. Campers of all ages really have fun gliding across the water; we even take SUP trips! All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

Experience and/or ability to teach flat water stand up paddle boarding to all ages, from beginner to advanced. Current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer are a plus; this course is offered pre-season to staff.

Swimming

Beautiful, crystal clear Lake George is an amazing place to perfect swimming strokes. Swimming is “mandatory fun” for every camper, so it’s up to energetic and creative swim staff to make it challenging yet fun. Swim lessons are based on the Red Cross progressive swim program, and swim staff are also responsible for lifeguarding during recreational swimming. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

Experience teaching swim instruction to children of all ages, from beginner to advanced. Current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required; Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification is desired.

Water-skiing/Wakeboarding

Share the thrill of water-skiing and wakeboarding with campers on beautiful Lake George. Instructors must be capable of teaching the fundamentals as well as advanced instruction. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

3-5 years experience water-skiing and wakeboarding; current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer are a plus; this course is offered pre-season to staff. Experience driving a motorboat while towing skiers and wakeboarders; capable of passing NYS Public Vessel license test.

Windsurfing

Share the thrill of windsurfing with campers on beautiful Lake George. Instructors must be capable of teaching the fundamentals as well as advanced instruction. All staff members have 2 major responsibilities; living and working with campers in a cabin and teaching in a program area. Staff members are responsible for providing leadership in the program area, including planning creative program, safety, and supervision.

Qualifications

3-5 years experience windsurfing in a variety of conditions; current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer are a plus; this course is offered pre-season to staff. Experience driving a motorboat.

WILDERNESS ADVENTURE

Head of Wilderness Adventure

Experienced wilderness tripper needed to lead a first class adventure program in the Adirondack Mountains. The Wilderness Adventure Director is responsible for planning and implementing every aspect of intense, progressive day and overnight trips, including food, equipment, and vehicle readiness. They are also responsible for assisting with selecting, training, and supervising 8 other trip staff members. Trips include hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, and canoeing. A key responsibility is ensuring camper readiness, and conducting a program that is fun for campers of all ages with widely ranging experience. This staff member oversees our in-camp Wilderness Fun program, rock-climbing program, and the overall health and safety of campers and staff on trips, including knowing and enforcing NY State Department of Health safety standards.

Qualifications

Minimum age 23. Current certification in tripping instruction or documented training and experience in a variety of progressive outdoor experiences. Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and SOLO Wilderness First Responder are required. Experience teaching tripping skills to children, desire and ability to work with children outdoors in varied conditions, and skill in outdoor program design. Previous experience leading wilderness trips and/or student experience with NOLS, Outward Bound, or similar programs. Capable of supervising, training and inspiring trip staff; knowledgeable about NY State Youth Camp Safety standards. Current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification preferred.

Rock Tripper

Share your knowledge and love of rock climbing with campers of all ages. The Rock Tripper will work with the Head of Wilderness Adventure to plan, coordinate, and lead all out-of-camp rock climbing trips. The Rock Tripper will also work with the Trip staff to lead other out-of-camp trips, including day hikes to five day wilderness backpacking and canoe trips into the Adirondacks. The Trip staff is responsible for assisting with planning and leading every aspect of trips so that campers have safe, unforgettable experiences. These responsibilities include driving camp vans, and organizing equipment and food. A key responsibility is ensuring camper readiness, and conducting a program that is fun for campers of all ages with widely ranging experience. When not on a trip, Trip staff members live and work with campers in a cabin.

Qualifications

Minimum age 21. Current certification in rock climbing instruction or documented training and experience in a variety of progressive experiences, including wall climbing, rock face climbing, and rappelling. Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and SOLO Wilderness First Aid certification is required; SOLO Wilderness First Responder is preferred. Experience teaching rock climbing and tripping skills to children, desire and ability to work with children outdoors in varied conditions, and skill in outdoor program design. Previous experience leading wilderness trips and/or student experience with NOLS, Outward Bound, or similar programs. Current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification and canoeing experience preferred

Rock Climbing

Wilderness Trip Leader

Trip staff work as a team to lead our impressive array of out-of-camp trips. From day hikes to five day wilderness backpacking and canoe trips into the Adirondacks, trippers are out of camp more than they’re in. Trip staff is responsible for assisting with planning and leading every aspect of trips so that campers have safe, unforgettable experiences. These responsibilities include driving camp vans, and organizing equipment and food. Trips include hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, and canoeing. A key responsibility is ensuring camper readiness, and conducting a program that is fun for campers of all ages with widely ranging experience. When not on a trip, Trip staff members live and work with campers in a cabin.

Qualifications

Minimum age 21. Current certification in tripping instruction or documented training and experience in a variety of progressive outdoor experiences. HEALTH CARE

Camp Nurse

RN needed to join our team of three nurses to provide care for 185 campers and 75 staff. Responsible for camper and staff medical needs, including dispensing meds, first aid requirements in camp and for out-of-camp trips, camper check-in and check-out, and follow up health care as needed. Responsible for organizing necessary paperwork, including documentation of procedures and insurance follow-up. Responsible for ongoing communications with the Camp Director, counseling staff, and parents. Four-week block preferred; two week block available.

Qualifications

Must be either NYS licensed Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse, or capable of securing temporary NYS license (see below for details). Position requires certification in Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid. Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of primary nursing insurance with a minimum cap of $1,000,000.

Health/Office Assistant

Work closely with both Camp Nurses and Office Manager to provide support. Health related responsibilities include: assisting with camper check-in and check-out, organizing necessary paperwork, assisting with head lice inspections and treatment, and driving campers to the doctor’s office. Office related responsibilities include: sorting camper mail and emails, answering the phone, running errands, assisting with cleaning the office, and generally assisting with office duties.

Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license.

SUPPORT STAFF

Camp Photographer/Writer

Responsible for organizing and generating quality digital photos throughout camp, including activities, events, evening activities, bunks, and individual campers. Responsible for downloading photos onto a Mac and editing using PhotoShop. Also responsible for identifying and uploading photos in a timely manner to camp website. May assist in teaching digital photography to campers. Responsible for ongoing, daily postings of creative copy on camp website, and editing camper and staff postings.

Qualifications

Experience in digital photography, including sports photography. Experience using PhotoShop on a Mac; experience using video camera a plus. Must have own camera. Experience in writing creative, interesting copy/reporting.

KITCHEN

Assistant Chef

Assist our professional chef in managing our busy camp kitchen. Culinary experience required; supervisory experience desirable. Must be hardworking, flexible, and willing to tackle any and every job associated with serving nearly 300 people 3 meals daily.
