Wilderness Adventure Trip Leader

Trip staff work as a team to lead our impressive array of out-of-camp trips. From day hikes to five day wilderness backpacking and canoe trips into the Adirondacks, trippers are out of camp more than they’re in. Trip staff is responsible for assisting with planning and leading every aspect of trips so that campers have safe, unforgettable experiences. These responsibilities include driving camp vans, and organizing equipment and food. Trips include hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, and canoeing. A key responsibility is ensuring camper readiness, and conducting a program that is fun for campers of all ages with widely ranging experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 21.
• Skilled in planning and leading wilderness trips.
• Current certification from NOLS, Outward Bound, or similar programs; or documented training and experience leading a variety of progressive outdoor experiences.
• Experience working with children in the outdoors.
• Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Wilderness First Aid is required; Wilderness First Responder is preferred.
• Current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification and canoeing experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.

Rock Tripper

Share your knowledge and love of rock climbing with campers of all ages. Work with the Head of Wilderness Adventure Trips to plan, coordinate, and lead all out-of-camp rock climbing trips. The Rock Tripper will also work with the Trip staff to lead other out-of-camp trips, including day hikes to five day wilderness backpacking and canoe trips into the Adirondacks. The Trip staff is responsible for planning and leading every aspect of trips so that campers have safe, unforgettable experiences. These responsibilities include driving camp vans, and organizing equipment and food. A key responsibility is ensuring camper readiness, and conducting a program that is fun for campers of all ages with widely ranging experience. In addition, all Trip staff assist in other transportation as needed, including airport pickup and drop-off for campers.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 21
• Current certification in rock climbing instruction or documented training and experience in a variety of progressive experiences, including wall climbing, rock face climbing, and rappelling.
• Current certification from NOLS, Outward Bound, or similar programs; or documented training and experience leading a variety of progressive rock climbing experiences.
• Experience working with children in the outdoors.
• Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Wilderness First Aid is required; Wilderness First Responder is preferred.

Rock Climbing

Share your knowledge and love of rock climbing with campers of all ages. Our rock-climbing program includes the in-camp climbing wall, bouldering, and occasionally assisting with out-of-camp rock climbing trips.

• Current certification in rock climbing instruction and/or documented training and experience in a variety of progressive experiences, including wall climbing, rock face climbing, and rappelling.
• Current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR is required.
