Food is an essential part of the sleepaway camp experience. Three times a day, campers come together to eat, fueling full, active days on the lake and around the peninsula. So what does mealtime actually look like at camp? Here’s how we do it at Adirondack Camp.

A Typical Day of Meals at Overnight Camp

Mornings could start with pancakes or French toast, or a hearty savory option like eggs, hash browns, and sausage. There’s always Carlo Crunch (our special blend of cereals), yogurt, granola, and oatmeal available, along with juices and fresh fruit. Gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options are always avaliable for every meal.

Lunch keeps things fun and varied. Across a typical week, campers might enjoy tacos, baked ziti, grilled cheese with tomato soup, or even pizza and pasta dishes. There’s always something familiar, but also enough variety to keep things interesting.

Dinner rounds out the day with meals like roasted turkey with vegetables, chicken teriyaki with rice, pasta dishes, curry, or jerk chicken. It’s the kind of food that refuels campers after a full day outside. Both lunch and dinner feature two salad bars with options changing daily.

Twice a week we eat barbeque and sit outisde in the warm summer air.

Meals Built for Every Camper

We know how important it is for campers to feel safe and comfortable when it comes to food. Our kitchen is completely nut and sesame-free, and we take dietary needs seriously across the board. We provide gluten-free options prepared at a separate station to avoid cross-contamination, and we accommodate a wide range of dietary needs, including vegetarian meals. Vegetarian options are served separately buffet-style, giving campers the freedom to choose what they’d like while still being part of the shared dining experience.

Meals That Bring Camp Together

Most meals are served family-style at each table, with campers and counselors sitting together with their cabin, passing dishes, and sharing stories from the day. It’s a natural pause in a busy camp schedule, and one of the most consistent moments of community each day.

One of the most memorable parts of camp meals isn’t just the food, it’s the atmosphere. The entire camp gathers together in the dining hall, creating a sense of energy and community that’s hard to replicate anywhere else. There are songs, laughter, and the familiar rhythm of hands drumming on tables as the room comes alive. It’s a space where friendships grow, personalities shine, and even the simplest meal becomes something shared and memorable.
