We have a strong philosophy, a fabulous program, and impressive facilities, but without caring staff members who love children and have a deep sense of accountability, our coed camp would not be what it is.
We are blessed with a core group of educators and youth development specialists (many of whom are also parents) who are deeply committed to the principles upon which we stand.
We meet all year long to plan for the next summer.
We recruit approximately 35% of our summer camp counselors each year from US colleges and graduate schools, many counselors are ADK alumni, plus we recruit internationally.
We have very high standards. Each applicant goes through a screening process, interviews, background checks, and reference checks. We look for maturity, a strong work ethic, as well as a developed skill-set.
We are looking for warm, infectious young men and women who adore working with children. We only accept the cream of the crop. We are immensely proud of the men and women, who dedicate their summers to make a lasting difference in your child’s life.
After staff are hired and before they arrive at Camp, staff go through Adirondack Camp Orientation to become familiar with our philosophies and policies, so they understand how important they will be as role models to our campers.
Ten days before camp begins we hold an intensive leadership training program called ADK University that every member of our summer camp staff must attend. This gives us an opportunity to teach our philosophies and equip staff with the psychological and practical skill sets needed for a successful summer. It also gives the camp counselor community an opportunity to bond so that when campers arrive there is, already, a sense of warmth and camaraderie.
