Overnight summer camp at Adirondack has been part of Merritt’s life for over forty-one years. As Camp’s Assistant Director since 1999, her goal is to pass on the same ideals of leadership, growing, and caring to staff and campers she received as a young camper. Merritt is also in the daily liaison role of Camper Advocate. She works with parents to get to know every child, and teams up with all departments of Camp to ensure campers receive the care and attention outlined by parents in the Confidential Questionnaires, emails, and telephone communications.
In the off-season, Merritt is a Certified Insurance Counselor, former fourth-generation owner of her family’s insurance agency, and Senior Account Executive for a national insurance agency and recently completed her second Masters degree in Comparative Literature with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies. However, she loves being at Camp and has passed on her passion for summer camp for girls and boys to her husband, Jim, and daughter, Heather.
Camp has afforded me an amazing opportunity to grow as an individual. I honestly believe that every minute of every Adirondack day is a gift to all of us and that our time together should never be wasted.
