Sailing

Hi, I’m Julia! I’m 18 years old, and from Middlebury Vermont (just about 45 minutes away from camp). I’m graduating high school this spring, and in the fall I’m headed to Carleton College in Minnesota. At Carleton, I will likely major in environmental studies, possibly with a minor in cognitive science.

In my free time, I enjoy lots of outdoor activities. I’m working on hiking all 46 of the Adirondack High Peaks (I’ve done 23 so far), and I also spend lots of time in the mountains skiing. In the winter, I coach groups of younger ski racers, and I also like to snowboard with friends from time to time. When the weather’s warmer, I play tennis and I’m a soccer goalkeeper, and I like to mountain bike with my family. Other hobbies of mine include baking and graphic design.

This will be my third summer at ADK: I’ve been here one summer as a camper, one as a CIT, and now one as staff. Before that, I spent my summers at my grandparents’ house, right across the lake from camp, so I’m very familiar with northern Lake George and the surrounding area. I also learned how to sail on Lake George, and for a few years I sailed competitively in Vermont. Adirondack is a very important place to me, especially because of the amazing community of people at camp, and I’m so happy to have the opportunity to teach sailing here. I hope to help campers feel comfortable and confident in the boat, so that they can have fun, and also become skilled and independent sailors! I can’t wait for this summer.
