Sails Set for Cheeseburger in Paradise Regatta
Sailing is one of the most beloved and iconic waterfront activities at Adirondack Camp. With our peninsula set on the pristine waters of Lake George, our program offers campers not just the thrill of gliding across the lake under full sail, but a chance to develop genuine skills, confidence, leadership and independence on the water. Unlike most other camp activities, sailing is given a double period—two full hours per session. Every sailing period begins with a class meeting in the ACYC—the Adirondack Camp Yacht Club. Full of charm, quirks, and character (much like the sailing staff themselves), the ACYC is where each session starts with a discussion of conditions, goals, or tactics before heading out onto the water.

The program caters to all levels of experience, from first-timers to seasoned junior racers. Sailors are grouped according to their proficiency and progress through different certifications including crew certification, Opti-sailing credentials, performance sailing, and ultimately, a coveted skipper card. Our diverse fleet—featuring 420s, Optis, Lasers, Cape Cod Mercurys, and brand-new racing FJs—provides an ideal platform for learning, practice, and competition.

ACYC Mission Statement
In sailing, campers will gain lifelong confidence and appreciation of mind, water, and waves through creative and enthusiastic leadership in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment.

Our Head of Sailing, Jason—playfully known over the walkie-talkie as “Commodore Tothy”—has been a dedicated part of teaching Adirondack Camp’s sailing program for five summers, building on his own experience as a former camper. Under his leadership, the program is designed to guide young sailors toward an advanced level of proficiency, following standards set by US Sailing and tailored to school-aged participants. This week, Jason is coaching an advanced group of sailors as they prepare to compete in the Lake George “Cheeseburger in Paradise Regatta,” a performance sailing regatta hosted by our neighbours at the Northern Lake George Yacht Club.

This highly anticipated two-day event draws youth sailors from clubs across the region and even from Canada. Adirondack Camp will be sending 14 of our top performers to compete, including some of our youngest campers. Racing will take place in our new fleet of six high-performance FJs and two elite Optis - boats used in the Junior Olympics and World Championships.
